There’s a small trail in the woods from Valdivia to the pueblo Punucapa. The trail is relatively flat and really pretty. In Punucapa there are breweries and cideries. If you time it right you can take a boat ride back down to Valdivia.

A large private park near Valdivia with panoramic views of the coast, mountains, and volcanos. On a good day you can see 5 volcanos from the same viewpoint. Make a reservation online before you go or you may be able to get in.

It’s very close to Curiñanco and Pilocura, so it’s a great day trip to visit all three.

Beautiful beach with natural arch in the rocks. You’ll need a car to get here, as the nearest bus stop is in Curiñanco. It’s close to Parque Oncol, so you can easily do both in a day.

Valdivia’s in the river district with several small pueblos on the coast, mainly Niebla and Los Molinos. It’s jokingly called “Valdi-lluvia” due to the rainy climate in winter. The city is famous for craft beer (it was colonized primarily by Germans) and has great cheap seafood. There’s a small naval museum with a submarine and outdoor markets for buying local fish, vegetables, fruit, cheese, and bread year round.

Depending on the season, you can find a tasty berry called murta or mushrooms unique to the area.

I have so many recommendations I’ve split them out to a separate trip.

Locations Valdivia other

The airport’s 20 minutes or so out of town, so it’s easiest and cheapest to use a shuttle company. No reservations are necessary before arrival, but to go to the airport you’ll need to schedule a pickup ahead of time.

transportation

Bike, drive, or take the express bus to visit the many communities, beaches, and lookouts along the coast north of Niebla. The road ends at Punta Curiñanco, with a beautiful beach, several trails in the forest, and a few restaurants with great views.
