Great museum about the history of not just the nearby Capelinhos volcano, but also the volcanoes of the Azores and around the world. Tickets are €10 and include access to the nearby historic lighthouse.

Short hike to a beautiful little lake. The trail’s difficult to find. Park at the location on the map, and follow the small dirt road a minute to a barbed wire fence. Turn left and follow the trail flags fifteen minutes to the lake.

Sao Miguel Islands

Spot Azores has webcams throughout the islands. It’s really useful for checking weather conditions in various areas of the small islands right before you head out the door for the day.

Free hot spring beside the coast. It was closed when I visited, but online comments say it’s free to enter the hot spring, but visits are limited to 30 minutes. There’s a swimming area in the ocean right beside the hot spring building.
